The Oregon State Beavers played their final game of the regular season on Saturday and as I feel like I’ve said one too many times this season...it could have gone better. USC shut the Beavs out 5-0 and outhit them 9-5. OSU also committed two errors on the day.
Final.

USC 5, Oregon State 0
Ben Ramirez picked up USC’s first score with a sac fly RBI in the top of the second. Matthew Acosta added an RBI single in the top of the sixth.
Any chance the Beavers had of mounting a comeback soon died in the top of the ninth. USC added three runs in that frame and were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the inning.
If there was a highlight of the day for Oregon State, it was the performance of Beau Phillip who had three putouts and this impressive double.
This ball started off foul and hooked in to fall for a double.

While Grant Gambrell had a few solid at-bats, it wasn’t a great day for him allowing four hits and two earned runs. With the losing decision, Gambrell drops to 5-2 on the year.
Mulholland had a rare flat-out bad outing late in the game. In three innings, he allowed four hits and three runs with one strikeout.

The Beavers and the rest of Division I now will be waiting to see where they fall in the NCAA tournament field. The field will be announced on Monday at 5:30 PM PT. In all likelihood, the Beavs will still be hosting a regional as that duty falls to the top 16 seeds.
If you’re interested, the Beavs are hosting a watch party at Goss on Monday with doors opening at 8:30 AM PT.
