It was a relatively “business as usual” type of Saturday for the Oregon State Baseball team. After taking the Friday game 6-2, the Beavs and Utes played two on Saturday afternoon. OSU won both games with the first game ending 11-0 and the second one ending 3-2.

Game 1

The first game of the day was one of great offensive success. OSU tallied 16 hits to Utah’s five with Utah committing opne error. Adley Rutschman led the way at the plate with a homer and two RBIs on the day. George Mendazona also chipped in three RBIs along with Joe Casey, Matthew Gretler, Tyler Malone and Beau Phillip also contributing to the score count. On top of the great offensive day, Bryce Fehmel pitched a complete game allowing five hits with four strikeouts. Fehmel moves to 5-0 on the year with the winning decision.

Game 2

The second game of Saturday was significantly closer. OSU tallied nine hits to Utah’s five with one error commited by the Utes. Neither team crossed home plate until the sixth inning when Utah’s Chandler Anderson singled to bring in a run. Oliver Dunn got the Utes another one in the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh Gretler got OSU on the board with an RBI single to center field. Adley Rutschman tied the game up with a homer to left field in the eighth.

The Utes tried to take a lead in the ninth, but some nifty fielding helped preserve the score. The game ended up going to the 11th inning when Preston Jones would hit an RBI double to clinch the game.

Jake Mulholland earned the winning decision after solid four inning relief appearance with five strikeouts.

Next up, OSU has another game against the Oregon Ducks on Tuesday at 5:30 PM PT at Goss Stadium. We’ll talk about in the next couple of days.

Hope you had a great weekend, Beaver fans!
