It was another dissappointing midweek game for the OSU baseball squad. The San Diego State Aztecs defeated the Beavers 4-3 on Tuesday thanks to some alert base running and solid pitching. SDSU outhit the Beavs 9-8 and OSU committed the only error of the day.
Final.

San Diego State 4, Oregon State 3.
We'll be back at Goss tomorrow night for the midweek finale versus SDSU. 5:35 p.m. PT first pitch.
San Diego State picked up the first two runs of the game with a sac fly in the first from Joe Fitzhugh in the top of the first and a solo homer from Mike Jarvis in the top of the second. OSU then took the lead with a productive bottom of the second that included RBIs from Jake Harvey, Kyler McMahan, and Beau Phillip.
SDSU got back on top in the fifth with Casey Schmitt had an RBI and and then later scored on a dropped pop fly by McMahan.
OSU’s offense didn’t quite have enough juice to take back the lead despite some solid chances that Beau Phillip and Preston Jones afforded them. Adrian Mardueno earned the winning decision for SDSU after a great seven innings pitched.
One of OSU’s biggest needs this week was finding an effective midweek starter....that didn’t quite pan out. Sam Tweedt had a tough outing allowing three earned runs. Nathan Burns and Mitchell Verburg maintained the game after that.

You can’t solely blame the loss solely on the pitching, however. OSU had multiple chances to tie the game or even take the lead with runners in scoring position in the later innings, but couldn’t capitalize. OSU drops to 19-6-1 with the loss.
The Beavers will try to bounce back on Wednesday night at 5:35 PM PT on Pac-12 Plus.
