Over the past week or so we have broke down what we expect to be the 2019 depth chart/ Today we finish up with a look at the running back depth chart.
Starter(s)
- Jermar Jefferson
- Artavis Pierce
Welcome to the Jermar for Heisman campaign headquarters! The freshman all american running back burst onto the scene following an Art Pierce injury last season and never looked back. Set the Oregon State true freshman rushing record with 1,380 yards. Averaged 5.8 yards per rush on 239 carries including two games over 230 yards as well as two 4 TD games. Jermar Jefferson is well on his way to multiple Heisman trophies a top overall draft pick and a statue right outside Reser. Behind Jermars 1A on the depth chart will be a 1B running back that could start for several other Pac 12 teams in Art Pierce. Pierce was tabbed to be the #1 guy after Ryan Nall left for the NFL, but his previously mentioned injury saw him lose that role to the freshman sensation. Pierce will look to bounce back from his injury marred season and will see the ball a ton as a change of pace back.
Next guys up
- Calvin Tyler Jr.
- B.J. Baylor
- Taron Madison
The next 3 guys will battle out in the spring and fall to see who will be the next back in the rotation. Calvin Tyler Jr was highly thought of by the previous administration, enough to burn his redshirt while sitting 4th on a talented depth chart. That season ended with a dislocated elbow for Tyler, while his follow up season was ended before it could start due to an ACL injury. Tyler Jr. will look to get back on the healthy side in what will be his redshirt sophomore campaign. BJ Baylor saw the field in nine games last year with 24 carriers for 80 yards. The sophomore had his most carriers (10) against Cal. Ta’Ron Madison comes in as one of the top recruits in the 2019 class for OSU. A 3 star recruit out of Banning, California was recruited by several other Pac-12 schools.
Conclusion
The best group of talent on the OSU roster will look to carry the load for the offense. Jermar Jefferson will win his first Heisman after running for 2000 yards and 35 TDs while Art Pierce chips in another 1000 yards and 15 TDs of his own. Both will be All Americans and will lead Oregon State to an NY6 bowl! Ok maybe I got ahead of myself, but Beaver Nation should be excited Jermar Jefferson, Art Pierce and the rest of the RBs.
