The final weekend of the regular season got off to a bad start for the Beavers, as they fell on the road against #21 Arizona State 66-54. The Beavers fall to 23-6 overall, and 13-4 in the conference.

The Beavers fell behind early, with the Sun Devils jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Oregon State began finding some scoring, particularly in the paint, but couldn’t get there three point game going. The quarter ended with the Beavers still down five, 13-8.

Things tightened up in the second. with Aleah Goodman hitting the Beavers first three of the game to give Oregon State a two point lead. Less than a minute later, she added another three to keep the Beavers in front.

Sophia Elenga got Arizona State back in front before the half ended with a pair of layups, but the Beavers were only down three, 28-25. Unfortunately, things fell apart in the third quarter. The Sun Devils opened the quarter with a 13 point run, which the Beavers never found a way to come back from.

The Beavers entered the fourth down 15 as the game turned extremely defensive. Neither team scored for the first five minutes of the quarter, until Mikayla Pivec hit a layup for OSU. By that point there was just not enough time for the Beavers to get back in the game, and a horrible tech call on Scott Rueck didn’t help. A Jasmine Simmons three in the closing seconds cut the deficit to 12, but in the end the Beavers lost 66-54.

Mikayla Pivec led the team in scoring, with 18 points. She also led the team in rebounding, with 7, and had 1 assist. Aleah Goodman was the only Beaver to find success from the three point line, hitting 3 of 9 attempts, and finishing with 16 points. They were the only two Beavers to hit double digits.

The Beavers final regular season game will be on Sunday against Arizona. Tip off is set for 2:00 PM PT. Check back with Building the Dam for a preview of the game.
