Oregon State was impressive in their 2019 home debut, soundly beating West Virginia 9-2. Kevin Abel got the start and was terrific earning his second victory of the season. Abel gave up just one hit and one run in six innings of work. He also struck out 11 batters of the 23 batters he faced. Check out the game highlights below (there’s a few Abel strikeouts in there).

Oregon State broke the game open in the bottom of the 2nd inning. West Virginia’s ace, Alek Manoah, was uncharacteristically erratic in the 2nd inning. Oregon State was able to put up seven runs thanks to two walks, two batters getting hit, a past ball and an error. The Mountaineer’s were forced to pull Manoah, but the damage was already done.

The Beavers ended the night with just six hits, but Kyler McMahan was the offensive MVP with two doubles and three RBIs. He’s batting .423 on the year and although he had Oregon State’s only error (an unfortunate drop in centerfield), he’s been huge for Oregon State so far. Adley Rutschman, Andy Armstrong and Beau Phillip (2) were the only other Beavers to get hits in the game.

Oregon State will face West Virginia tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PT. Bryce Fehmel will get the start.
