Jeffrey Nelson Commits to Oregon State

The Beavers land a 2019 kicker!

NCAA Football: Oregon at Oregon State Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Jeffrey Nelson has committed to play for the Oregon State football team. Nelson is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound kicker/punter from Clackamas Oregon. He announced his commitment to the Beavers this evening on Twitter.

Jeffrey Nelson is accepting a preferred walk-on position with the Beavers. He ultimately hopes to earn a scholarship and the starting kicker job as his collegiate-career unfolds, but for now is excited to step foot on campus.

Jordan Choukair is currently the only scholarship kicker on Oregon State’s roster. Choukair received intense criticism last season as he missed a couple of crucial kicks. Choukair finished the year 12-20 on FGs & 35-38 XPs. The coaching staff still has plenty of faith in Choukair’s abilities as a kicker headed into 2019 though. There will obviously be an intense competition this offseason between entrenched starter Jordan Choukair and Jeffrey Nelson, but the two appear to have a great relationship.

Oregon State still has three available scholarships for the 2019 recruiting class. James Rawls and Jacob Ferenczi (greyshirt) have both verbally committed to Oregon State and are expected to make it official tomorrow on national signing day. That still leaves Oregon State with two scholarships and a handful of players who are in the mix for those last two spots.

No matter what happens tomorrow, it sure is nice to have Nelson headed to Corvallis. Welcome to Beaver nation Jeffrey Nelson!
