The Oregon State Beavers are 4-0 to start the season. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it was actually pretty close as OSU wrapped their latest victory 5-0 on Monday against the New Mexico Lobos. The Beavs outhit the Lobos 9-5 and committed one error to New Mexico’s two.

The Beavers got on the board right away in the bottom of the first when Preston Jones homered over the left field wall. In the second, Alex McGarry walked with the bases loaded, scoring Troy Claunch. Claunch scored again in the fourth thanks to a fielding error. Jones would get his second RBI of the day in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Tyler Malone added another run in the bottom of the eighth with a sac fly of his own.
On the pitching side, Grant Gambrell got the start going 3.1 innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Brandon Eisert followed him in relief going 3.2 innings with five strikeouts while allowing three hits. Mitchell Verburg also pitched a full inning and Jake Mullholland closed the game out. Eisert was awarded the victory, making him 2-0 to start the year.
Offensively, this team is warming up. Outscoring opponents 33-9 in four games is hard to be disappointed in. As good as that number is, they could be scoring more, OSU left twelve runners on base in Monday’s win. The bullpen is looking strong to start off, Eisert in particular.
Next up, OSU has four games in Arizona against the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting on Thursday at noon.
