After a quick trip down to Miami, the Beavers were back in action at Gill Coliseum against the Rainbow Wahine of Hawaii. Oregon State dominated the game from the tip-off, with the Beavers’ defense smothering Hawaii for a 64-32 victory. Oregon State is now 8-0 entering their final stretch of non conference games.
Kennedy Brown led the Beavers in scoring, with 16 points and 6 rebounds. She was especially good from behind the arc tonight, hitting 4 out of 6 of her three point attempts. Taylor Jones also finished in double digits, with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Jones and Maddie Washington (2 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) were key in winning the battle in the post. For most of the game Hawaii wasn’t able to hit their jump shots, so a lot of their scoring came when they were able to feed the ball to Center Lauren Rewers (10 points, 3 rebounds.) With Jones and Washington controlling the key, Rewers was limited in the damage she could do.
Mikayla Pivec (11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists) and Destiny Slocum (10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists) rounded out the Beavers’ double digit scorers. The big story tonight from the Beavers’ forwards was their ability to completely shut down the Rainbow Wahine’s shooting. Hawaii only shot 23.2% for the night, and 18.1% from behind the 3 point line.
The Beavers have the rest of the weekend off, and will take on Utah State next Saturday, December 14th at Gill.
