While the rest of us are dealing with the cold and rain in Corvallis, the Beavers are spending the holidays in Hawaii, which I’ve heard has slightly nicer weather. In their first game in the Maui Jim Maui Classic, the Beavers got another dominant win, taking down the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 91-57. The Beavers are now 10-0.
Mikayla Pivec and Destiny Slocum set the tone early, hitting back to back threes to open the game. Things never really got closer. By the end of they first they were up by 11, by the end of the half they were up by 22.
Taylor Jones put on another incredible performance, and led the team in scoring. She had a double double by the end of the first half, and ended the nighthh with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and a block. 25 points is a career high for Jones.
3 other Beavers hit double digits. Mikayla Pivec had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists; Destiny Slocum hhad 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists; and Maddie Washington had 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a block. That’s an especially a nice stat line from Washington; while she’s normally great on defense, she’s not usually one of the team’s best scorers.
The Beavers will be back in action late tonight, taking on BYU (5-4) at 9:30 Pacific time. Oregon State will be streaming the game live on pac-12.com
