Star forward Tres Tinkle poured in 27 points and guard Ethan Thompson added 16 points of his own on Wednesday night, in the Beavers 11-point win over UC-Santa Barbara.
Oregon State built off a seven-point half-time lead to put the Gauchos away in the second half and move to 4-1 overall on the season, with a 3-0 mark at home. In addition to his huge scoring night, Tinkle also snagged a game-high 11 rebounds, while Thompson shot an impressive 8-12 from the field.
The Beavers got much needed contributions from Alfred Hollins too, who tallied 13 points (5-7 FG) and 5 rebounds, and center Kylor Kelley who scored 6 points and swatted away 6 UC-Santa Barbara shots. Guard Zach Reichle and reserve forward Roman Silva both added 6 points in the contest respectively.
The Gauchos were led by big man Amadou Sow (14 points, 11 rebounds) in the clash, while leading scorer Max Heidegger and forward Matt Freeman both finished with 13 points. Former Beavers point guard JaQuori McLaughlin, who now runs the show for UC-Santa Barbara, scored 8 points on a rough 2-10 (0-7 3PT) shooting display, but managed to grab 8 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in an all-around effort.
Game Notes: Outside of Roman Silva (6 points), the Beavers got just four points of production from their bench with 2 points each coming from Gianni Hunt and Jarod Lucas...The Gauchos outrebounded the Beavers 43-30 in the game, while conversely, Oregon State blocked 7 shots to UC-Santa Barbara’s zero...Both teams shot a combined 9-42 from behind the arc.
