After putting on the best performance of his career in the Beavers’ 48-31 win over UCLA, Jake Luton is getting some attention from the national press. The College Football Performance Awards have named Luton their player of the week for Week 6.

Previous winners of the award this season include Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Luton’s fellow Pac-12 QB Kedon Slovis.
It’s easy to see why with these numbers: 285 yards, 5 touchdowns, a 19 yard rushing TD. No interceptions, no fumbles. With a nearly perfect performance, Luton was this week’s leader in ESPN’s Total QBR ranking, with a score of 97.6
Luton also won College Sports Madness’ award for the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, the first Beaver to do so this season.
Luton will get a much tougher test when Utah come to Corvallis next weekend. The Utes are 4-1 so far this season, and are coming off a 38-13 beatdown of Washington State. During that game, Utah picked off Cougars QB Anthony Gordon twice.
Building the Dam will have a full preview of that game later this week, but for now let’s just enjoy the win.
