Oregon State Basketball: Stephen Thompson Jr. Drafted By G League Team

The former Beaver joins the Wisconsin Herd

NCAA Basketball: Oregon at Oregon State Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Former Beaver Stephen Thompson Jr. was drafted by the Wisconsin Herd in today’s NBA G-League Draft. Thompson was taken with the 2nd pick of the 2nd round, the 30th overall pick. The Wisconcin Herd is the G-League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, and plays in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Thompson will get a shot at being another Beaver to make the jump from the G League to the NBA. Drew Eubanks spent time with the Austin Spurs before being called up by San Antonio and playing in 23 games. Gary Payton Jr. has bounced between the NBA and the G League on a few teams (including the Herd) and currently plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Houston Rockets affiliate.

Thompson was scouted before the NBA Draft but didn’t get his name called. Following that, he spent time with the Dallas Mavericks Summer League Team but didn’t get a roster spot.

Just a quick run down of Stevie’s OSU career, in case you’ve forgotten after a few months. He’s the greatest three point shooter the Beavers have ever had, hitting 230 in his time at Oregon State. If you gave him any room to operate on the perimeter, he would punish you heavily for it. He’s the Beavers all time fourth leading scorer.

The Herd will get there season started on Friday, November 8th when they take on the Windy City Bulls. If Stevie does anything amazing, Building the Dam will be sure to let you know.
