Oregon State Football: Omar Hicks-Onu Leaves the Team

An already depleted Beavers defense loses another player.

Tuesday afternoon Oregon State safety Omar Hicks-Onu left the team and put his name into the NCAA transfer portal. With Oregon State secondary suffering from numerous injuries, Hicks-Onu had seen quite a bit of time on the field, despite being behind Jalen Moore on the depth chart. Through six games, Hicks-Onu had 21 solo tackles, and 29 total tackles. During his time as a Beaver, he had 78 total tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass deflected and 1 forced fumble.

Hicks-Onu redshirted in 2015, and sat out all of 2018 with a knee injury. He should still have a year of eligibility with whatever program he ends up with. His departure leaves another hole in a unit already reeling from injuries. Just at safety; Jalen Moore, Jeffrey Manning Jr., and David Morris have all missed time due to injuries, and Kee Whetzel left the team due to personal circumstances before the season began.
