The Case For Payton: Best known for his Hall Of Fame NBA career, Payton began his playing days in Corvallis, where he pieced together one of the Pac-8/10/12’s best individual seasons as a senior in 1989-1990. Finishing that campaign as the conference’s Player of the Year with ridiculous averages of 25.7 points, 8.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game, the 6’ 4” guard carved his own massive path in the annals of Oregon State basketball folklore for many years to come.
#8 - Phil Ricci (2001-2003)
The Case For Ricci: Despite only spending two seasons on campus, Ricci posted near identical campaigns in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003, averaging a consistent 16.4 points on a 52.8 shooting percentage from the field and 7.6 rebounds per night. Currently an assistant coach for Player Development with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, Ricci has spent a lot of his time since leaving Corvallis working for different professional programs in a few different capacities.
