After a tough loss on Thursday night, Oregon State bounced back for a 9-5 win against the Utah Utes in game two of the series. Both OSU and Utah had 9 hits in this one and the Beavers committed three errors while Utah committed two.
Utah scored first with an RBI single from Richardson in the bottom of the second. A sac bunt from Cadyn Grenier that scored Zak Taylor evened things up in T3, but Utah’s Debenedictis got an RBI single through the left side to put them back up a run.
Michael Gretler hit a sac fly to score Jack Anderson in the fourth before the Utes rattled off three in B4. The night looked like it was going in a bad direction for the Beavs...until the seventh inning.
A single from Adley Rutschman brought in two runs to make it a one-run game.
Tyler Malone, in the DH spot tonight, blasted a double to right field giving three runners enough time to score. Gretler hit his second RBI sac fly of the day soon after.
Andy Armstrong tacked on a solo homer in the eighth. It would be the first of his career. That would end the scoring for the night as Utah would not get a comeback of their own going.
Luke Heimlich pitched the first 6.1 innings of this game allowing five runs (two earned) with eight hits, three walks, and six strikeouts. Dylan Pearce pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing one hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Jake Mulholland pitched the final inning, earning two strikeouts of his own.
With the win, Oregon State improves to 21-3 on the year. Utah’s loss in this one is their 20th of the year to go along with their five wins.
