The #8 Oregon State Beavers Women’s basketball team takes on the Eastern Washington Eagles in game nine of the season. The game with take place at the Maui Jim Maui Classic where Oregon State is playing host for the third straight year. Tip-off is slated for 9:30 PM PST on Friday, December 14th. Check out the team’s Twitter page on how to follow along live (at the time of this writing, it does not appear to be a streaming option to watch this game). Let’s take a closer look at the Eagles.
Eastern Washington (1-6 overall, 0-0 conference)
Last season: 17-14 overall, 12-6 in Big Sky (T-3rd), no postseason
Eastern Washington comes into the Maui Classic with a less than stellar record at 1-6 with their lone win coming against Eastern Oregon, a school from the NAIA’s Cascade Collegiate Conference. Last year they started similarly, going 2-5 in their first seven games. Despite their unimpressive record, the Eagles appear to play competitive for three quarters of a game. In quarters one, three, and four, the Eagles are being outscored by just 20 (347 to 327). The real issue comes in the second quarter when they are being outscored by more than all three of the other quarters combined at 56 (130 to 74).
Who to watch
#12 - Violet Kapri Morrow, Senior Guard
The senior guard is leading the team in points and rebounds per game at 17 and 6.6 respectively. She is a real threat to score as she has reached double figures in every game so far this season and her career game high is 28.
#4 - Jessica McDowell-White, Freshman Guard
The freshman Aussie is making an instant impact as she is second on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game. As the team’s primary point guard she is leading the team in assists at 2.4 per game and three point percentage at 39.5%.
Prediction
By the looks of Eastern Washington’s record, we can figure that this game is will handled with ease by Oregon State. Let’s just hope they aren’t caught looking ahead to their next opponent.
