The Missouri Tigers handed the Beavers their first loss of the season, taking down Oregon State 69-63 in the second round of the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. Missouri took control of the game early, and while the Beavers were able to battle back, and briefly took the lead in the second half, the Tigers began to pull away late in the game. Oregon State just didn’t have time for another comeback.
The Beavers will now face the loser of the game between Penn and Kansas State to determine third place in the Paradise Jam. The third place game will be tomorrow at 2:30 PM PST.
Tres Tinkle had his 39th straight double digit game, with 17 points. Tinkle also had 10 rebounds and six assists, but turned the ball over 5 times, which is unusual. The Thompson brothers were also big contributors, with Stephen Thompson finishing with 15 points, including three 3 point shots. Ethan Thompson added another 9 points, and each Thompson had 2 assists.
Kylor Kelley added a lot off of the bench, which is a good sign. In addition to his 8 points, he had 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Kelley may start getting some more time going forward, especially as the Beavers other big man, Gligorijie Rakocevic, struggled, wiith only 2 points today.
Missouri finally got the breakout game from Jordan Geist that they’d been looking for. The Guard scored 21 points. 12 of those were from free throws, as Geist capitalized on a foul heavy game. Forward Kevin Puryear also had a big game, with 17 points.
Up Next: As previously mentioned, the Beavers get the loser of the other semifinal being played today, either Kansas State or Penn. That game will be tomorrow at 2:30. Following that, they’ll travel to Long Beach State next Sunday, November 25th.
