Oregon State put on a show in Corvallis this morning. The Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff were never in this one. After the team traded a series field goals to start the game 4-4, Oregon State did not allow APB to score again in the first quarter. During that time the Beavers, led by Destiny Slocum, dropped 22 points on the Golden Lions, taking a 26-4 into the first break.

The game never got closer than that. The score was 48-10 at halftime. The Golden Lions managed to put a bit of offense on the court in the second half, while still being completely unable to stop the Beavers. The final score was 89-33. A 56 point margin of victory.

Destiny Slocum Had Another Big Game

After coming out strong against Cal Poly, Slocum followed that up with another impressive game. She took control in the first quarter to help put away APB, and was a threat from just about anywhere on the court.

She looks like she can do it all. She had 15 total points, including a three pointer, and 11 assists. The Beavers haven’t been tested by a really tough opponent yet, but right now it looks like Slocum is going to be the centerpiece of their offense.

Four Beavers Hit Double Digits

In addition to Slocum, Kat Tudor (18 points), Katie McWilliams (13 points), and Mikayla Pivec (12 points) all broke into double digits. Tudor in particular had an amazing game, even though she started on the bench. The Beavers are pretty clearly going to rotate through guards with a lot of frequency, and Tudor made the most of her new role tonight. She nailed 4 three point shots, and also contributed 8 rebounds.

Pivec is also adapting well to her new role, grabbing 14 rebounds. She’s as much of a threat when she doesn’t have the ball as when she does.

Janessa Thropay Had 8 Steals

While she didn’t have any points in the game, Thropay managed to make a big contribution anyway, grabbing the ball away from the Golden Lions 8 times. Let’s hope we see that again!

Jo Grymek is Still a Question Mark

Grymek had a pretty good game, with 8 points and 5 rebounds. She was really able to leverage her size, with Arkansas-Pine Bluff not really having anyone able to match her. She’ll need to work harder against opponents that can match her size, but there’s reason to be optimistic after today’s game.
