Less than three weeks after Oregon State alumni Devon Collier signed with French basketball club Poitiers Basket 86, another Beavers legend in Roberto Nelson has signed with Italian team, Roseto Sharks. Roseto competes in the country’s Serie A2, the equivalent of the Italian basketball structure’s second-division.

Nelson is coming off a split 2016-2017 campaign, where he spent time playing in the USA (Delaware 87ers), Mexico (Toros) and France (Chorale Roanne Basket) over the course of 20 games. His longest stay was with Mexican side Toros, where Nelson averaged 11.7 points and 4.5 assists per game in 11 contests. For Chorale Roanne Basket, Nelson suited up in just six games, averaging 9.2 points per contest, while playing alongside another Beaver alum in Joe Burton.

An All-Pac-12 second-team selection as a senior with the Beavers back in 2014, Nelson went un-drafted in that summer’s NBA Draft, despite a gaudy 20.7 points per game average. After a stint in the NBA Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets, Nelson found a temporary home from 2014-2016 in Italy, spending time with both Germani Basket Brescia and Pallacanestro Alma Trieste. He’ll know return to the country once again, after a slight hiatus.

Recently, Nelson was also named to our “Oregon State Basketball (Post-200) Mount Rushmore”, a collection of the four best men’s basketball players for the program since the turn of the century.
