- First of all, Happy 4th of July everyone! America’s day of celebration not only gives us some time to enjoy this beautiful country of ours but also to sit down and watch one of the strangest spectacles in all of “sports”, the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. It’s a weird, sometimes uncomfortable event for viewers to take in but if nothing else, always something to see. Here’s a small run-down of the event to get yourself ready for the festivities.
- Over at Baseball America, previews for the 2018 college baseball season have already been fired up and it looks like expectations around the country are that Oregon State once again will be making a trip to Omaha. Bringing back the Pac-12 Player of the Year in Nick Madrigal, as well as Cadyn Grenier, Steven Kwan, Adley Rutschman, Bryce Fehmel and Jake Mulholland can only help the Beavers cause.
- In addition to a strong batch on returning talent on the field, it looks like the Beavers will bring back some serious ability in the coaching ranks as well, as pitching coach Nate Yeskie was recently named “Assistant Coach of the Year” by D1Baseball.com. Yeskie has been on head coach Pat Casey’s staff for the past nine seasons and he oversaw arguably the best pitching staff in all of college baseball this past season.
- Our buddies over at Pacific Takes released their most recent Preseason Pac-12 position rankings and for the wide receiver threats in the conferece, not one single Oregon State stand-out made the cut. It’s hard to argue with their analysis, considering NFL-size target Jordan Villamin is coming off a disappointing 2016 season, but their ranking of Ryan Nall behind Oregon’s Royce Freeman on the running back list was just wrong.
- Oregon State pitching alum Andrew Moore impressed in his debut for the Seattle Mariners back in late-June, when he went seven strong innings against the Detroit Tigers, earning him a win in his first career start for the team. And after a handful of days off, Seattle called on the services of the “Red Storm” again, to take the hill against the Kansas City Royals last night. While the Mariners didn’t end up getting the win, Moore did look impressive, as he tries to stick on Seattle’s roster for the long haul.
