- Eric Dickerson, a Hall of Fame running back who starred for the Los Angeles Rams from 1983-1987, told the NFL Network over the weekend that he would start former Oregon State gunslinger Sean Mannion to “start the season” over former first-round pick, Jared Goff. Dickerson credits Mannion’s “great arm” and time spent in a “pro-style offense” with the Beavers, as two of the third-year quarterback’s main selling points.
- BeaversEdge took a look at Oregon State’s defensive line for the upcoming season and gave Beaver Nation five reasons why the the boys up-front will be “much improved” in 2017. Some key returners from last year at this spot inlcude Elu Aydon, Kalani Vakameilalo, Baker Pritchard, Philip Napoleon, and Paisa Savea.
- Football is the emphasis in this edition of “Quick Links”, which also traveled over to BeaverBlitz, as they caught up with outside linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu, one of the rising stars on the Oregon State defense. Ugwoegbu, who sustained a season-ending ankle injury against Stanford last season, was a stallwart on the defensive side of things for the Beavers, posting 5.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss in 2016.
- In a fairly unique piece about the Oregon State football program, the Oregonian detailed the Beavers’ “Beyond Football” program, which connects the school’s players with “community service projects and career-related resources” that will better situate them for future success. Another interesting tidbit about the article, is that it was produced by student reporters Ian Knox and Kiara Johnson from De La Salle North Catholic High School and Parkrose High School, respectively.
- And finally, we head back to the Oregonian for a look at quarterback Jake Luton and how he’s gearing up to secure his spot as the starting quarterback in Fall Camp. Luton, a Ventura College transfer, is challenging last year’s starters in Marcus McMaryion and Darell Garretson for the lead role on the roster.
