- The list of preseason accolades continue to roll in for the Beavers, who can now also add quarterback Marcus McMaryion to the group, when he was selected onto the Danny Wuerffel Trophy Watch-List for the upcoming season. The award, which is given annually by the All Sports Association, honors the player who “best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.”
- Expectations. Injuries. A key transfer from a rival school. Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen discussed all of this and more to the Oregonian on Tuesday, as the team prepares for it’s August 26th season-opener at Colorado State. The Beavers are looking to improve upon last year’s 4-8 campaign but face a myriad of challenges in their path, including a number of position battles and a rigorous schedule.
- Oregon State didn’t lock down the services of four-star forward Jarvis Thomas on Tuesday, which means the Beavers must now focus on filling in the rest of the 2018 class around verbal commit Jack Wilson. The new focus of that recruiting effort will be on three-star forward Emmitt Matthews, a 6’ 7” prospect from Tacoma, Washington who has already visited the Corvallis campus and told BeaversEdge that he’s “one of their top guys”.
- With the 2017 MLB Draft not too far off in the rearview, there’s no time like the present to begin to look towards what the 2018 MLB Draft may hold for Oregon State, considering the Beavers will return a wealth of talent from this year’s group that made it to Omaha. The cream of the crop on the roster heading into next season will obviously be reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year, Nick Madrigal, who according to Baseball America is currently the #2 prospect in all of college baseball behind Florida pitcher Brady Singer.
- And finally, we’ve leave you with more Oregon State football talk, as the folks over at Beaver Blitz caught up with safety Brandon Arnold to discuss the mindset of the team heading into the start of the season. As Arnold states in the piece, when asked about an early-start to Fall Camp infringing on the summer break, “Nothing else really matters. It’s time for football, time to start playing.” We agree, man. We definitely agree.
