What is The Opening?
A showcase of some of the top high school football players in the nation. Players will compete in drills to determine the best athlete, as well as a 7on7 tournament and a lineman challenge. The players are coached by former NFL players along with current college football and NFL stars. For more info on one of the premier high school football events in the nation click here.
When is it?
While the QB’s and Wide Receivers are all ready in town, the competition really begins Saturday. Saturday night will feature a showcase to determine the best overall athlete of the bunch, while Sunday and Monday will feature 7 on 7 team competitions, and a lineman challenge. You can find a breakdown of the schedule here, but please note times listed are eastern.
Where is it?
It will take place on the Nike campus in Beaverton, with the action going down on the Ronaldo field located right next to the Tiger Woods building.
Who to watch?
While several players competing in the event hold offers from Oregon State, the two Beaver fans will most want to keep an eye on are wide receiver Isaah Crocker and athlete Talanoa Hufanga.
Isaah Crocker is a 4 star recruit out of Inderkum high school in Sacramento, California where he played with one of the top recruits from OSU’s 2017 class in Trajon Cotton. Crocker is also part of the TMP elite 7 on 7 squad which has become somewhat of an OSU pipeline this last year, netting the Beavs commitments from Cotton and 4 star wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. The 6’1” 170 pound Crocker, who announced OSU as part of his top 6 on Thursday, will play for team Hyper Strong.
Talanoa Hufanga is a 4 star athlete out of Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis. Considered by many to be the top athlete in the nation, a commitment from the hometown kid would be a huge coup for Gary Anderson. It won’t be easy though as Hufanga has offers from all across the nation including Alabama, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame and Oregon. Hufanga, who some believe is on the verge of becoming a 5 start prospect recently announced hi top 10 schools, which included his home town Beavers. While considered a threat to play wide receiver or defensive back at the next level, Hufanga is listed as a defensive back on The Opening roster and will compete with team Untouchable.
If Beav fans want to watch the one who got away, look no further than 5-star running back and current Miami commit Cam’Ron Davis, who originally committed to Oregon State as a high school sophomore before his recruitment blew up and he de-committed. Cam’Ron Davis will play for team Savage Pro.
The event is free to attend if you want to come check out some Oregon State targets, or if you just want to come out and check out some of the best high school football players in the nation or maybe bump into an NFL star.
