On Saturday night, Oregon State punched their ticket to Omaha after knocking off Vanderbilt with a convincing 9-2 victory, to win the “best of three” series in the NCAA Super Regional. On Sunday, they learned who their future opponent in middle America would be, when Cal State-Fullerton defeated Long Beach State, 2-1, to secure their own trip to the college baseball’s final eight.

The victory over the Dirtbags pushed the Titans overall record to 39-22 on the season, which includes a slew of remarkable moments along the way. Cal State-Fullerton started the season with an 11-2 record, which featured an impressive 8-game winning streak over the course of ten days in March. Throughout the season, the Titans have also had some strong outings against tough teams, which can be highlighted by a 4-1 overall season mark against Stanford and shut-out, 4-0 victory over Arizona back in March..

A solid regular season earned the Titans a spot in the Stanford regional, where they first blasted BYU before then-defeating the aforementioned Cardinal twice on back-to-back days, to secure a trip to the Super Regional round against Long Beach State. Against the Dirtbags, the Titans dropped the first game of the series but bounced back with convincing victories in Games 2 and 3, by a combined score of 14-1.

As a program heading into the season, Cal State-Fullerton has historically been one of the college baseball’s all-time best, as the Titans have won four National Championships (1979, 1984, 1995, 2004), made 17 College World Series appearances and have booked a trip to every NCAA Tournament in since 1992. However, this will be just the Titans second CWS appearance since 2010 and just the second trip under sixth-year head coach Rick Vanderhook. This season, the team is led by outfielder Sam Hurst, infielder Taylor Bryant, and pitchers Connor Seabold and Brett Conine.

While some match-ups have already been set for the final field of eight, the official NCAA College World Series bracket and schedules will be announced on Monday night at 8:00 PM PT.
