Bryce Fehmel was the Saturday starter for much of the season until a series of rough starts combined with the return of Drew Rasmussen forced him to the bullpen. Fehmel’s last start was against Cal on May 6th, when he gave up 4 earned runs in 3.2 innings (51 pitches).
After being sent to the bullpen he did not see action until the last game of the regular season against Abilene Christian University on May 28th. He pitched one scoreless inning in relieve (16 pitches). Overall, Bryce should be very well rested headed into tonight’s game.
The Portland Tribune’s Kerry Eggers reported that Drew Rasmussen is day-to-day:
Sophomore Drew Rasmussen, who lasted only four innings in a win over Yale in last weekend's regional, is dealing with soreness from a hematoma in his pitching arm after being hit by a line drive the previous week against Abilene Christian. His availability is day to day.
Bryce Fehmel has a tough task ahead as he will face-off against Kyle Wright who is expected to be one of the top selections in Monday’s MLB draft. Pat Casey will lean on Oregon State’s bullpen tonight if Fehmel struggles early.
