Following back to back walk-off victories by OSU, the Beavs had very little interest in going for 3 straight heart stoppers, winning in a slightly more decisive manner instead. The 5-1 win gives the Beavs their 4th consecutive sweep to start Pac-12 play, and their 23rd straight victory, which ties the Pac-12 record set by the 1988 Arizona State Sun Devil squad.
Jake Thompson continued his impressive start to the 2017 season giving up just one run on only one hit while striking out 7 Utes in 8 1/3 innings of action in front of a packed house at Goss Stadium. Thompson’s performance netted him his team leading seventh win of the season. Mitch Hickey picked up his first save since 2015 by getting the final two outs of the game.
Cadyn Grenier got the scoring started for OSU with a 3 run home run in the 3rd inning, it was the sophomore second baseman’s 3rd home run in the past 5 games. OSU also tacked on a run in the 4th via a Madrigal double and another in the 5th when KJ Harrison took a 3-2 pitch out of the park. Nick Madrigal went 3-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored while Jack Anderson collected two hits while scoring in the 3rd and 4th innings.
