After a delayed start due to the spring training game between the Royals and Rangers in Surprise, Arizona. The Beavers took on Nebraska for the second time this weekend in a Saturday afternoon clash.
The Beavers got on the board right away with a KJ Harrison two run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning. Then in the second, Nick Madrigal took one for the team getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Jack Anderson. Also in the second, Christian Donahue’s sac fly to center scored Michael Gretler to make the score 4-0.
Nebraska did manage to score 2 runs in the sixth, but Gretler’s RBI single for OSU in the eighth was just enough insurance to secure a 5-2 victory.
On the mound, Salem, Oregon, native Sam Tweedt started for OSU and pitched for five innings. Tweedt allowed seven hits and struck out four before being relieved by Mulholland in the sixth. Max Engelbrekdt then made a ninth inning appearance to earn his third save of the year.
The Beavers improve to 6-1 on the year and have one last game in Surprise tomorrow with Ohio State, scheduled for 8 AM PT. Then, the Beavers head home to Corvallis to get ready for this years home opener against UC Davis on Friday, March 3rd.
