Oregon State scored at least 21 points in every quarter to beat the Utah State Aggies, 94-55. The Beavers had their second straight rout on as many nights to finish the Maui Classic with two easy wins. Mikayla Pivec and Marie Gulich led the charge with 20 and 17 points, respectively, while making a combined 17 baskets on 23 attempts. Aleah Goodman continued her hot three-point shooting by making four of six on her way to to a career high 16 points. Maddie Washington also contributed 10 points while only missing one shot.
The Aggies had two double digit scorers of their own in Rachel Brewster (16) and Hailey Bassett (12), but the Beaver defense was just too much for them to handle. Oregon State nearly doubled Utah State’s field goal percentage (60% to 31%) and rebounds (46-24).
Goodman flashed some impressive ball-handling making Aggie defenders miss on multiple steal attempts. She also demonstrated the ability to find open teammates as she tied Pivec for the team lead in assists with four. Goodman’s emergence will give the Beavers another option at the point as they move forward deeper into the season.
The Aggies drop to 1-6 on the season, while the Beavers improve to 5-2. Oregon State is back home next Sunday, December 10, to take on San Jose State for a 2 PM PST tip.
