Gymnastics season is quickly approaching. And with it, marks the start of a new campaign for the Oregon State Gymnastics squad that is looking for another magical year.
All initial signs point towards a promising season for the lady Beavs, as Oregon State received their first preseason rankings courtesy of the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Preseason Poll that was released this past Sunday. In this initial poll, the Beavs will start the year as the 12th ranked team in the land of NCAA gymnastics.
BTD previewed this squad in an article that was dropped last month. But, to sum up the article, we are pumped for this season. Basketball may get a ton of love in the winter(and deservedly so), but women’s gymnastics for Oregon State may be one of the most consistently solid programs OSU has to offer. Yes, even rivaling baseball.
This upcoming season is no different, as our group of ladies, spearheaded by seniors Shireen Khamedoost and Dani Dessaints, lead 11 returning beavs in addition to 6 newcomers into a slate of ultra-competitive Pac-12 match-ups. These contests include bouts at home against #18 Stanford; as well as road contests versus #15 Washington, #6 UCLA, and #5 Utah.
Is this a tough schedule the beavs face? Yes. Can they handle it? Absolutely.
This is a team that you need to keep an eye on as gymnastics season draws near. And you can get a headstart on just that by checking out OSU Gymnastics annual Orange and Black Exhibition this Friday, December 15, at 7:00 pm in Gill Coliseum. It is totally free, so you don’t really have an excuse of why you can’t go.
To say the least, we are excited for gymnastics to get here. But what about you? Are you fired up? Let us know in the comments section below!
