The Oregon State Women’s Basketball team won big against Utah Valley, 98-41, for their second win of the season. Leading the way was Marie Gulich, who scored 19 points for the second consecutive game, and Mikayla Pivec with 18. The Beavers have found a formidable one-two punch in Gulich and Pivec who have led the team in scoring in the first two games.
The Beavers never trailed the entire game, thanks to an 11-0 run to start the game, but Utah Valley tried to make the game interesting by going on their own 7-0 run at the end of the first quarter, capped by a Taylor Christensen jumper with four seconds left to close the gap to three. Gulich and Pivec made sure the Wolverines would never get close again by each scoring five points during a 12-0 run to start the second quarter. Then before you knew it, it was a 24 point game for the home team at halftime. After halftime, Oregon State went on a 12-0 run yet again before adding another run of 21 points in the final quarter.
The defense was masterful as usual, holding the Wolverines to under 30% shooting for the night and holding them to single digit points in each of the final three quarters. On offense the Beavers were selfless, leading to a team record 35 assists, and deadly accurate with a 68% shooting percentage. They also tied a team record 17 three-pointers.
Gulich and Pivec put in well rounded efforts aside from their game high scores. Gulich finished with 19 points on 9-9 shooting, seven rebounds, four blocks, and one assist. Pivec tallied 18 points on 5-6 shooting (including 4-4 on threes), eight assists, six boards, and four steals. Other notable contributors were Maddie Washington with eight boards and eight assists, Kat Tudor with 17 points, and Aleah Goodman with 12 points. Christensen led the Wolverines with 15 points.
The Beavers host Notre Dame next on Sunday, Novermber 19th. Tip off is at 11 AM.
