- Head women’s basketball coach Scott Rueck is no stranger to success, having led the program to a 90-15 overall record since the start of the 2014-15 season and his efforts have now been rewarded with a five-year contract extension from the athletic department. Rueck, who’s new deal will take his commitment to the Beavers through the 2026-2027 season, is coming off a 31-5 campaign that ended in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. One year previous, Rueck guided the program to it’s first ever trip to the NCAA Final Four.
- After pledging to play for Oregon State back in June (originally for the mid-2017 season), basketball prospect Kylor Kelley had since de-committed from the Beavers and re-opened his recruiting process. However, on Tuesday, Kelley reaffirmed his commitment to the Oregon State program (this time for the 2018 campaign), as reported by BeaversEdge. For more on Kelley, you can read our original “Q&A” with the seven-footer from back in the mid-summer after his initial commitment.
- With a quick turn to the football side of things during this bye week for the Beavers, quarterback Darell Garretson will now have to play looking over his shoulder again, as quarterback-turned-safety-turned-quarterback again Mason Moran has returned to his role as the back-up gunslinger for Oregon State. Moran, who is not expected to necessarily compete with Garretson for playing time but instead provide some stability as the position, is aiding a depth chart hampered by the losses of Jake Luton (injury) and Marcus McMaryion (transfer).
- While we were busy here at Building The Dam compiling our own takeaways from the Beavers’ most recent contest against Colorado, under interim head coach Cory Hall, BeaverBlitz also explored the magnitude of a program at a crossroads and what lies in store for the future of the Oregon State program. While the end of the season may explore some more notable changes, including a likely coaching search discussed here in the BTD podcast, there was some notable optimism in Hall’s debut outing, highlighted here by a rousing speech from the interim head coach.
- And finally, in some once again somewhat disappointing news for the members of Beaver Nation, Oregon State receiver and fan favorite Seth Collins has once again been ruled out indefinitely with an undisclosed health problem. It’s been stated that this health issue is unrelated to Collins’ previous undisclosed health issue, but it’s unknown if Collins will pursue a medical redshirt for the season.
