Recruiting Roundup: Calvin De-Commits, Green Upgraded & Offers Abound

The Beavers lose one four-star prospect, get another upgraded and dish out some offers to national talent.

NCAA Football: Oregon State at Washington State James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

As Signing Day now stands just two weeks away, it’s time to ramp up the recruiting focus here at Building The Dam. We’ll have a full “Pre-Signing Day Recruiting Board” posted fairly soon and we’ll have you completely covered on the big day, as Oregon State targets from around the country make their intentions to come to Corvallis official. Until then, catch up on some Beavers recruiting news with another edition of “Recruiting Roundup”.

Jamire Calvin ‘17 (Cathedral HS/Los Angeles, CA) ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

After a week or so of some much speculated second-thoughts about his commitment to Oregon State, four-star receiver Jamire Calvin has decided to re-open his recruitment. Calvin originally chose the Beavers over Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Washington State, during the nationally televised U.S. Army All-American Game. It is believed that the Cornhuskers are the most dangerous threat to luring Calvin’s talents away from Corvallis.

T.J. Green ‘17 (Chandler HS/Chandler, AZ) ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

While Green’s commitment to Oregon State may not be changing (although, he did just add an offer from Utah), it now seems that Green’s status as a recruit is, as recently, Rivals upgraded Green to a four-star recruit in the release of their pre-Signing Day 2017 rankings. The 5’11”, 185 pounder is listed as the 29th best running back in the country, who chose the Beavers over the likes of Boise State, Hawaii, Idaho, South Dakota State, Utah and Utah State.

Bruce Judson ‘17 (Cocoa HS/Cocoa, FL) ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

Cocoa, Florida’s own Bruce Judson has suddenly become an enigmatic figure in Oregon State’s recruiting process, as his current pledge to South Florida is wavering, now that Willie Taggart has moved on to become the head coach at Oregon. Upon Taggart leaving, Judson immediately looked to Taggart’s new school in Oregon, in which at the same time, Oregon State became involved. Judson recently enjoyed a visit to Corvallis and considers the Beavers a legitimate contender for his services. For a player who was once committed to Ohio State (before Urban Meyer forgot his name), Judson is another sign of head coach Gary Andersen’s new recruiting focus.

Newest Oregon State Offers

  • Calvin Tyler ‘17 (Silsbee HS/Silsbee, TX) ✪ ✪ ✪: A speedy 5’9”, 190 pound all-purpose back, Tyler picked up an offer from Oregon State on January 13th. He is currently considering the Beavers, in addition to California, Fresno State, Illinois and Louisiana Tech. It is rumored that Illinois is a possible front-runner at this time.
  • Isaiah Dunn ‘17 (Antioch HS/Antioch, CA) ✪ ✪ ✪: A cornerback out of California’s Antioch High School, Dunn picked up an offer from Oregon State on January 13th as well. The Beavers are in the mix for his services, along with a litany of other schools, including BYU, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Wyoming,
  • Reggie Roberson ‘17 (John Horn HS/Mesquite, TX) ✪ ✪ ✪: A 6’, 185 pound wide receiver from Texas, Reggie Roberson cut his list down to six schools on January 12th, with the Beavers being included in the final group. Along with Oregon State, Illinois, Kansas, Utah, Washington State and West Virginia are all likely destinations, with once-again, Illinois being rumored as an early favorite.
  • Tanis Joseph ‘17 (Ellsworth C.C./Fort Lauderdale, FL) ✪ ✪: A 6’5”, 300 pound offensive guard, Joseph picked up an offer from Oregon State on January 17th. Joseph currently holds offers from East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Hawaii, Marshall, Memphis, SMU, Southern Miss and UCF.

Additional News

The Beavers recently offered Devon Williams, a 2018 quarterback/athlete from Lancaster, California’s Antelope Valley High School. Williams received his first offer from Oregon on January 10th, which was followed by Oregon State’s offer just two days later. Head coach Gary Andersen is already recruiting Williams’ teammate at Antelope Valley, 2017 three-star athlete, Morrell Osling III. Osling III committed to Colorado back in July but has picked up a bevy of offers lately, including ones from both the Beavers and the Ducks in the past month.
