Olaf Schaftenaar To Join Spanish Club Next Season

Olaf Schaftenaar is taking his talents overseas

Anyone who watched Beaver basketball these last couple seasons knew that Gary Payton II was the only NBA talent on the roster. While he did go undrafted, the Houston Rockets picked him up on a partially guaranteed 3 year contract. Even though no other players from last year’s team were drafted or signed to undrafted free agent NBA contracts, one player is still going to play professionally.

Olaf Schaftenaar has signed a one-year contract with the Spanish professional team CB Peñas Huesca, the same team that Beavers coach Wayne Tinkle played for during his professional career. While Schaftenaar was at Oregon State he put up averages of 5.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He provided solid shooting and defense to a team who made its first tournament appearance in 26 years, hitting 35.4% of his three pointers.

Schaftenaar joins a team who finished last season with just a 16-14 record but made a run to the LEB Oro finals, losing in a 3 game sweep to Melilla Baloncesto. He will compete for minutes with 4 other forwards on the roster. Schaftenaar will join the team later this month. The official schedule for next season has yet to be released.
