Madden 17 Ratings: Brandin Cooks Tops in Speed, Paea is Strongest

Here’s how ‘Madden 17’ rates these former Oregon State players.

The wildly popular NFL video game “Madden 17” was released yesterday and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is already offended by his Madden rating. While individual player ratings are essentially meaningless, players do seem to care and it’s always humorous to see rich and famous athletes at the mercy of video game developers.

So, what did the video game developers think of the Oregon State NFLers?

Well Brandin Cooks should be happy! He’s listed as the fastest player on Madden 17 (tied with four other players). But Cooks is by far the most established NFL player on that list.

Top Speed Ratings in Madden 17:

  • Brandin Cooks, WR, Saints (96)
  • Phillip Dorsett, WR, Colts (96)
  • Jakeem Grant, WR, Dolphins (96)
  • Corey Grant, RB, Jaguars (96)
  • J.J. Nelson, WR, Cardinals (96)

Brandin Cooks’ speed isn’t a surprise to Oregon State fans. Cooks ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the NFL combine (fastest time at the 2014 combine). He also had a habit of torching Pac-12 secondaries during his time in Corvallis.

Not only is an Oregon State alum the fastest man on Madden 17, Beaver fans can take pride in the fact that the strongest man on Madden also attended Oregon State. That player is Stephen Paea, who’s tied with Ndamukong Suh.

Best Strength Ratings in Madden 17:

  • Stephen Paea, DE, Redskins (98)
  • Ndamukong Suh, DT, Dolphins (98)
  • Russell Bodine, C, Bengals (97)
  • Mike Iupati, G, Cardinals (97)
  • Dontari Poe, DT, Chiefs (97)
  • Jared Veldheer, T, Cardinals (97)
  • J.J. Watt, DE, Texans (97)

Back in 2011, at the NFL combine Stephen Paea set a record on the bench press. He benched 225 pounds, 49 times and his record still stands today (records kept since 2000). So, it’s no surprise to see Paea leading the way in strength.

While Cooks and Paea find themselves at the top of individual categories they are still far from the perfect overall rating of 99. Here’s their overall ratings along with the rest of the Oregon State alum. (Courtesy of PointAfter)
