Oregon State Baseball Wins ABCA Academic Excellence Award

Beaver Baseball was awarded for their excellent team academic performance

The American Baseball Coaches Association recognized the Oregon State Baseball team for their stellar academic performance this past year. Their team GPA was 3.14 for the year and according to osubeavers.com they set a single-season record with 11 players getting academic recognition in the 2016 season, all of which were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic team, highlighted by first-teamers Jack Anderson, who finished with a 3.73 GPA, and Jake Thompson who finished with a 3.70 GPA.  The Beavers are the only PAC-12 team to ever receive the award.

This award is a bright spot for what the Beavers would consider a down year by to their standards. While they did finish  35-19 overall, they posted a sub-par 16-14 record in PAC-12 play, and a very forgettable 9-11 record away from Goss Stadium. They also failed to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2008 season. The NCAA Tournament snub, stunned Oregon State players and coaches alike. Pat Casey, Oregon State's head coach, was vocal with his disappointment calling it a 'very unfair decision'.
