Oregon State Comes Alive Late to Put Away San Diego

Oregon State continues to impress in this young season, as they improved their record to 8-1 with a 7-2 win over San Diego. Pitcher Drew Rasmussen took his second win of the season, the loss dropped San Diego to 4-5.

The Beavers scored their first run off of a wild pitch from Toreros pitcher Nick Conyers that saw Nick Madrigal come home for the Beavers. It looked to be a low scoring game until the Beavers started to drive in runs in the later part of the game. The surge started in the fifth inning, a Madrigal double scored Cadyn Grenier to pushed the Beavers lead to 2-0.

The scoring wouldn't stop as the Beavers added to their lead in the top of the 6th inning with a single from Trever Morrison to drive in Jack Anderson. San Diego would answer back in the bottom of the 6th inning with a score of their own to cut the lead 3-1.

The 7th evening was no different as the Beavers' Billy King was walked with bases loaded to bring in KJ Harrison. Logan Ice got the second run of the inning off of a San Diego wild pitch to give Oregon State a 5-1 lead. Oregon State scored in the final two innings off of a Logan Ice fly out that KJ Harrison scored on and a Trever Morrison tripled scored Andy Atwood. San Diego added one run, but couldn't manage a comeback run finished the game with a score of 7-2.

Oregon State scored at least one run from the 5th to the 9th inning. Beavers starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen was taken out after seven innings pitched. He finished with seven strikeouts, one error, four hits and one run gave up. Luke Heimlich finished the final two innings for the Beavers with two strikeouts, one error, one hit and one run gave up.

Notes: As reported by Andy, Oregon State will play their regular scheduled game against William & Mary at 1pm. Due to bad weather Sunday, a second game against San Diego will play after that game instead of Sunday.
