Gary Payton II scores 51 in the NBA D-League

Gary Payton II goes off for 51 points while his dad looks on.

With his Father in attendance, fittingly, Gary Payton II went off for 51 points for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Developmental League last night.

Just check out these highlights. He was unstoppable!

Gary played 42 minutes and shot 20-of-29 from the field (7-of-12 from deep), he also went 4/5 from the free throw line.

Gary Payton (Senior) once had 58 points in a game against USC when Gary was at Oregon State. Then USC Coach had this to say about Gary Payton’s performance "It was one of the greatest one-man performances I've ever seen in 15 years,” USC Coach George Raveling said of Payton's performance. "I know this, 30 years from now when my grandson asks me about the greatest players ever, I'm going to be able to tell him, 'You know son, on a rainy night in Corvallis I saw a little ol' kid score 58.' And he'll say, 'How big was he?' And I'll say, 'About knee-high to a grasshopper.' And he'll say, 'He got 58?' And I'll say, 'Yeah, it was only because the horn blew.”

There could be similar quotes written Gary Payton II as well, when it’s all said and done.

Gary Payton II was on the preseason roster for the Houston Rockets before he was cut and subsequently ended up in the NBADL. Beaver nation knows how talented Payton II is, but it’s nice to see him turning some heads at the next level.
