On the eve of the biggest college football game of the year, for Oregon State football fans, Beaver nation got some amazing news. Jaylon Lane, ranked as the fifth-best corner back in junior college, has committed to play for Gary Andersen and Oregon State.

Coming out of high school Jaylon Lane could have played at basically any college he wanted too. Holding offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA and numerous other top schools.

Unfortunately, an off-the-field incident led to an arrest and forced Jaylon to continue his football career at the junior college ranks. Jaylon Lane has stayed out of trouble the last two years at Jones Community College though and chose Oregon State over offers from UCLA, Bowling Green, Louisiana Tech and others. Gary Andersen and his loyalty was a huge factor in Jaylon’s decision. He was quoted by OregonLive saying “It's crazy, because a lot of Power 5 coaches didn't take the time out of their day to get the details of what happened. They recruited me, and two days later there was no avenue there. Coach A asked about it. He took time to find out who I was. That goes a long way, goes a huge way. He stuck his neck out for me. I can't imagine what he'll do if I play for him. If I go there, I'll have to ball out for him."

Beaver fans can expect an extremely talented defensive back who is ready to contribute immediately. Oregon State has had success recruiting junior college defensive backs in the past. Steven Nelson paved the path going from the junior college ranks to Oregon State and is now starting in the NFL. Treston Decoud seems headed down that same path and Jaylon Lane could be next.
