The first quarter of the NFL season has passed, which marks a great time to check in on how Beaver alum have fared thus far.

Let's look at the defensive players:

D.J. Alexander (LB) Kansas City Cheifs

Last played for Oregon State in 2014

Summary: Alexander, listed as a 2nd string left inside linebacker behind perennial pro-bowler and team captain Derrick Johnson, has been mainly a special teams player this season. He has been on the field for an average of 24 special teams snaps per game, and 1 total defensive snap that came against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

Season stats: 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle

Scott Crichton (DT) Minnesota Vikings

Last played for Oregon State in 2013

Summary: Crichton was placed on Injured Reserve on August 31st with an undisclosed injury. Initially placed as a 2nd string defensive tackle, he will likely sit out the season, although if healthy there is a slight possibility he could return in Week 8 of the regular season.

Summary: Placed on Injured Reserve on September 28th. Gwacham was on the active roster for the first three weeks of the season and on the field for 7 special team snaps prior to going down with an undisclosed injury.

Steven Nelson (CB) Kansas City Chiefs

Last played for Oregon State in 2014

Summary: Nelson has cemented himself as the Chiefs number three cornerback playing 98.7% of the defensive snaps this season. In the first 4 weeks of the season, he has already nearly doubled his tackle total, and defended 3 more passes than in the entire previous season.

Season stats: 15 solo tackles, 3 passes defended

Stephen Paea (DL) Cleveland Browns

Last played for Oregon State in 2010

Summary: Released by the Redskins during the preseason, he was quickly signed by the Browns to provide much needed depth to their ailing defensive line. Serving primarily as a run stopping back-up defensive end, Paea has created a role for himself in taking on multiple blockers to free up linebackers in the 3-4 scheme Cleveland plays.

Season stats: 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle

Kyle Peko (DT) Denver Broncos

Last played for Oregon State in 2015

Summary: After playing only one season of Division 1 football in college, Peko was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Denver Broncos. He was cut as the team went to a 53-man roster, only to be signed to the 53-man roster 24 hours later. Peko was a healthy inactive for the first two regular season games before being released and signed to the Bronco's Practice Squad on September 22nd.

Jordan Poyer (S) Cleveland Browns

Last played for Oregon State in 2012

Summary: In his first year as the starting free safety on the depth chart, Poyer looks to be a solid defensive player for the Browns after putting together a quality first quarter of the season including a 13 tackle performance against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3. He has been on the field for 90% of the defensive snaps this season.

Season stats: 23 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles, 2 passes defended

Dylan Wynn (DE/FB) Cleveland Browns

Last played for Oregon State in 2014

Summary: Placed on Injured Reserve prior to the regular season with an ankle injury. Throughout training camp, Wynn was referred to as one of the hardest workers and even took some snaps as a fullback.

Free Agents:

Brandon Browner (CB/S) - Last played for Oregon State in 2004. Despite a position move to more of a hybrid safety this season, Browner was released by the Seattle Seahawks on August 29th.

Dwan Edwards (DT) Last played for Oregon State in 2003. Released by the Carolina Panthers in March. He has publicly stated that he has probably played his last down in the NFL.

Keenan Lewis (CB) - Last played for Oregon State in 2008. Released by the New Orleans Saints on August 19th.

Ryan Murphy (S) - Last played for Oregon State in 2014. Originally on the Denver Broncos' practice squad, he was released on September 22, prior to Week 3 of the regular season.

Rashaad Reynolds (CB) - Last played for Oregon State in 2013. Released by the Detroit Lions as the team moved to a 75-man roster during preseason.

Larry Scott (CB) - Last played for Oregon State in 2015. After spending the preseason with the San Diego Chargers, Scott was released as cuts to a 53-man roster were made.

Tyrequek Zimmerman (S) - Last played for Oregon State in 2014. Zimmerman bounced on and off the Arizona Cardinals' roster throughout the preseason before being released on August 30th.
