The Oregon State women’s basketball team has secured a commitment from the top junior college post player in the nation. Her name is Joanna Grymek and she is a 6-foot-8 center from Poland. Grymek has been playing at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas.

Joanna Grymek was highly sought after and had narrowed her decision down to Oregon State or Kansas. She should make an immediate impact at Oregon State and will have three years of eligibility remaining. At 6’8 her height alone should bleed enthusiasm! In the NJCAA she was 12th overall in blocks with 73. Her 73 blocked shots landed her in the top ten for a single season at Seward County. In 33 games at Seward Community College, she averaged 13.4 PPG and shot a respectable 55% from the free throw line. She also averaged just over 6 rebounds per game. And ended with a .602 career field goal percentage in her only season at the junior college ranks which puts Joanna Grymek at No. 2 in Seward school history. Grymek certainly isn’t a finished product on the basketball court, but the talent is there and she should develop into a lethal center for the Beavers.

This is a big-time get by Coach Rueck and Joanna Grymek should immediately step in and help fill the void left by graduated center Ruth Hamblin.
