LaCrosse is a club level sport at Oregon St., and at many schools in the west, so instead of being an NCAA sport, its a MCLA (Men's Collegiate LaCrosse Association) sport.
That doesn't, and shouldn't diminish this year's unprecedented accomplishment by Oregon St.'s men's team, which is headed to the post-season tomorrow undefeated, and champions of the PNCLL.
The Beavers, currently ranked #4 in the nation, will face fellow PNCLL member Idahio, whom they defeated earlier this season in Moscow, at 4 PM in Covington, WA. As such, the Beavers are favored to prevail over the Vandals again.
Oregon St. also defeated Oregon, Washington, Boise St., and Washington St. (its always good to beat any of those guys at anything if you are a Beaver), as well as Montana, Simon Fraser (notable because while lacrosse is still an emerging sport in the western USA, compared to the more familiar east coast powers you see playing on ESPNU, it is a big deal in Canada), and as noted Idaho, this season.
Oregon St. also has non-conference wins over Utah and Arizona, as well as Cal-Poly, plus a victory in a scrimmage against area rival Portland. Looks a lot like the same suspects the Beavers face in a lot of other sports, doesn't it?
The (only) problem is the OSU Men's Lacrosse is funded almost exclusively through player dues and donations from families, friends and alumni. Having never accomplished what they did this season, the budget for their postseason wasn't that sizable.
There's an opportunity for Beaver fans who are so inclined to help out, aided by the OSU Foundation, and any contribution is tax deductible.
