Oregon St. continues their tour of great plains BIG XII teams, and the weekend portion of the Pac-12-Big 12 Tournament, against Oklahoma.
Radio broadcast stations: KICE 940-AM in Bend, KEJO 1240-AM in Corvallis, KKNX 840-AM in Eugene, KLZS 1450-AM in Eugene, KLAD 960-AM in Klamath Falls, KPOJ 620-AM in Portland and KSKR 1490-AM in Roseburg (carry all games), KAKT 105.1 FM & 104.7 FM in Medford, and KBZY 1490-AM in Salem (Saturday and Sunday games only.)
The Beavers (4-2) won a 10-9 shootout over Kansas St. yesterday, getting a 2 out, walk-off pinch hit RBI single to drive in a pinch runner. No doubt exactly how Oregon St. head coach Pat Casey drew it up. Well, maybe not. But it was the 3rd walk-off win already this season for the Beavers.
The Sooners (4-4) dominated Washington yesterday, downing the Huskies 10-1 on a 4 hitter by sophomore Jake Elliott. A pair of 4 run innings were the offensive highlights. First baseman Austin O'Brien went 3 for 3 plus a walk, and scored 3 runs, while Kolbey Carpenter went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, and 3 RBIs, including 1 of 2 home runs Oklahoma hit the Huskies with.
Oregon St. will send freshman LHP Luke Heimlich (0-0, 2.08) to the mound. Heimlich worked into the 5th inning of last Sunday's 7-4 loss to New Mexico, giving up 1 run and 1 walk, with 3 strikeouts, and handed a 1 run lead to the Beaver bullpen that went through 7 arms in less than 5 innings. A disconcerting tendency that reoccurred yesterday, when a parade of 5 pitchers came in from the bullpen, with only Austin Woodward being effective.
Oklahoma will counter with RHP Alec Hansen (0-1, 12.00). Hansen worked 3 batters into the 4th inning of the Sooners' 10-9 loss to Notre Dame last Saturday, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, and leaving 2 runners on base who also scored.
Oregon St. will be the designated visitor today, and will bat first.
Coach Casey has shaken up the lineup, at least initially. KJ Harrison remains in the #3 spot in the order, but won't be at first base, moving instead behind the plate, and parking Logan Ice on the bench.
"As good as Logan has been, we really don't want to put him back there all day all 4 days, so we will give him a little break," Casey explained.
Billy King, after delivering the game winning hit yesterday, will get the start today, and play first as well as hitting cleanup. Joe Gillette gets the start in left field, and Scotland Church also sitting, after playing well in recent opportunities.
But given the amount of substitutions taking place in these early season games, it will be no surprise if the lineup card gets all marked up again today.
