Oregon State scores 110 to open their 2015-16 season

It was not close in the Oregon State women's basketball 2015-16 season opener, as the Beavs defeat the Longwood University Lancers 110 to 45.

The 2014-15 Pac-12 champions banner was hung in Gill Coliseum this evening before the game, and the women's basketball team played like a well deserved pre-season pick to repeat with another conference banner for the 2015-16 season.

It was an impressive performance all the way around for the Oregon State Beavers as everyone who had playing time scored, and all facets of the OSU game was clicking.

Oregon State's offense was able to score from the 3-point line and in the paint, ran well on the break, and the Beavs' defense played solid to hold the Lancers to 23% from the field and only 45 points.

Overall it was a game that was dominated from the opening tip, as the Beavs outscored Longwood 26 to 16 in the first quarter and 50 to 21 at the half.   In the second half the scoring barrage continued and Oregon State ripped off a 35 to 12 third quarter, and the last quarter saw the lead grow to 65 points (final margin of victory) and the Beavers were able to hit the century mark with a couple Samantha Siegner free throws at the 3:52 mark in the last quarter.

Longwood did come in to the match up 4-26 for their previous season record, but still it was an impressive showing for the Orange and Black home crowd.

Some highlights included freshman Katie McWilliams hitting her very first regular season shot from the three-point line, senior Jamie Weisner leading the scoring with 24 points, both Ruth Hamblin and Marie Gülich playing strong on the inside, Kolbie Orum shooting 5 for 5 from the field, and six Beavers scoring in double-digits.

Oregon State finished the game shooting 64% (41-64), including 10 for 17 from the 3-point arc, and went 18-21 from the free throw line.  The Beavers out-rebounded Longwood a whooping 54 to 18, and about the only even stat was the turnovers with OSU turning the ball over 13 times to the Lancers 10.

The impressive individual stats deserves to be noted in detail:
