Game Notes / Portland Game Notes

Oregon St. returns to action today in Portland, for the middle game in their annual triangular series with Portland.

The Beavers won the opener 5-0 back on March 4 at Goss Stadium, behind a solid outing by freshman pitcher Jake Thompson. The final game of the year will be at Volcanoe's Stadium in Keizer, OR, on May 13.

The Beavers come in having taken 2 of 3 blowouts from Arizona over the weekend. Oregon St. wrapped an 11-2 win Friday night in Tucson and an 11-0 whitewashing Sunday around an 11-2 loss to the 'Cats Saturday evening.

The Pilots are reeling, having lost 12 in a row after they had run off 3 consecutive wins after the loss at Oregon St. This past weekend, Portland was swept at Pepperdine, having scored only 1 run in the 3 games. The puchless Pilots have scored 2 runs or less in 14 games so far this season, and 2 of their wins were by 1-0 scores.

Portland's season opening 1-0 upset of UCLA seems like much more than half a season ago.

Oregon St. has won 19 in a row against Portland, 2 short of the series record of 21 consecutive wins by the Beavers from 1959 to 1969, but given the misadventures that have happened at times when the Beavers get deep into their bullpen, anything is possible on the Bluff.

Freshman RHP Thompson (3-0, 3.05 ERA) will take the mound again for Oregon St. today, after taking a turn in the 7 pitcher carousel that was last Saturday's game at Arizona.

Portland will counter with Junior LHP Brandon Snyder (0-0, 6.35 ERA).

Here's Oregon St,'s lineup for today:

CF - Jeff Hendrix

2B - Andy Peterson

LF - Michael Conforto

RF - Dylan Davis3

DH - Gabe Clark

3B - Kavin Keyes

1B - Jerad Casper

C - Logan Ice

SS - Trever Morrison

P - Jake Thompson
