Oregon St. slipped slightly in this week's Baseball America Top 25 poll, dropping from 4th place to #5. But it was more that they were passed up, than that they slipped after taking 3 of 4 from Wright St. at Goss over the weekend.
Cal-St. Fullerton, who was 1 spot behind the Beavers last week, leapfrogged Oregon St. by sweeping formerly #9 and unbeaten Oregon at P.K. Park in Eugene in the "George Horton Classic", the most significant series of the weekend as far as matching up ranked teams. As a result, Oregon who also had a win over Portland, who will visit Oregon St. tomorrow evening, dropped out of the top 10, landing at #14, 1 spot behind UCLA.
The Titans were one of only 2 top 10 teams from last week's poll to go undefeated, along with South Carolina, after the Gamecocks swept rival Clemson (style points for which team got the better of the skirmish that broke out at the end of yesterday's game not factored in), and stayed at #3.
Virginia remained #1, after the Cavaliers bounced back from a loss to VMI to sweep a weekend series against Monmouth.
Florida St. held onto #2, after taking the last 2 of 3 from Miami.
Speaking of UCLA, they maintained at #13, after the Bruins bounced back from a loss to UC-Santa Barbara by winning the Irish Classic, played at the USA Baseball complex, in Cary, NC. UCLA beat Notre Dame, North Carolina St., and Michigan.
The western team to keep an eye on is Cal-Poly. After taking 2 of 3 from UCLA the weekend before, the Mustangs beat San Jose St., and split a pair of games with USC among the rain in the south, and is up to #11.
Fresno St. is the other ranked western team, breaking into the poll at #23, after sweeping previously ranked Texas A&M.
Collegiate Baseball has South Carolina #1 in their poll, and have Oregon St. at #8, where they were the week before. Fullerton and Oregon essentially flipped spots, and relative positions to Oregon St. there as well.
Kendall Rogers kept Virginia in #1 in his Perfect Game top 25, and has also kept Oregon St. at #6. He has Fullerton at #3 previously, so they didn't change, as everyone unanimously has Florida St. at #2. Oregon fell from #7 to #12 on his list, while UCLA moved up from #14 to #10, and Cal-Poly moved up from #13 to #9.
