Game Notes / Mississippi Valley St. Game Notes / Rosters
Oregon St. hosts Mississippi Valley St. late tonight, in the latest regular season home game start since another 9 PM start against Mercer in the 2006 season.
The Beavers return home to Gill, where they won their first 3 games of the season, before traveling to Las Vegas early last week, for the MGM Grand Main Event Tournament, where they lost both their contests, a 66-53 defeat against Oklahoma St., and then a 71-69 loss to Auburn last Wednesday evening.
Gary Payton II had a 20 point, 12 rebound double double in the loss to the Tigers, and now leads Oregon St. in scoring (12.4 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rbg), blocked shots (8), steals (10) and minutes (35.6 pg).
The Delta Devils, from the Southwestern Athletic Conference, are coming in off their first win of the season, a 66-63 victory over North Carolina A&T Saturday, after losing their first 6 contests of the season, all on the road. Mississippi Valley St. is in the midst of a 14 game road trip, and has also given up over 100 points already 3 times.
This coming off back to back 23 loss seasons.
5'10" sophomore guard Jordan Washington, Mississippi Valley St.'s leading scorer, averaging 14.4 ppg, had a game-high 20 point night in the win over the Aggies.
The teams have only met once previously, in Gill Coliseum on Dec. 19, 2009, when the Beavers won 76-62, with 5 players all in double figures.
Oregon St. is an 18 1/2 point favorite in tonight's game, which really says something about Mississippi Valley St., given the start from scratch nature of the Beavers' program this season. We should see some minutes for the walk-ons in this one.
