California (21-25, 9-14) at #6 Oregon St. (36-8, 16-4) / 2:05 PM / Goss Stadium / KEJO 1240 AM & KPOJ 620 AM
Game Notes / Gametracker / Live Stream
Oregon St. goes for it's second consecutive series sweep, and third in a row at Goss, today against California.
After Matt Boyd limited the Bears to 3 hits in Friday night's 6-1 Oregon St. win, Andrew Moore was even better Saturday, allowing only 2 hits in a 5-0 victory. Today, junior LHP Ben Wetzler (4-1, 1.47) takes an even lower ERA to the mound, so California could have an even harder time scoring runs today.
Wetzler has won the last 4 Sundays, and went 8 innings last week in beating USC 6-1.
The Bears were unsure who they would go with until game day morning. Sophomore RHP Dylan Nelson (1-4, 3.95) has been getting the Sunday starts, and will again today. But last week in their 14 inning 6-5 win at Washington, California used 8 pitchers. The last 2 weeks, sophomore RHP Keaton Siomkin (1-2, 3.92), who finished the game Friday night, throwing the last 5 innings, was the pitcher out of the Bear bullpen that saw the longest of the relief stints on Sunday.
Whether they can shake or wake up their offense is the bigger issue though.
Oregon St. coach Pat Casey is sticking with the regular 9 guys, but has again shuffled the middle of the order. Today's lineup:
Tyler Smith-SS
Andy Peterson-2B
Michael Conforto-LF
Dylan Davis-RF
Kavin Keyes-3B
Ryan Barnes-DH
Danny Hayes-1B
Jake Rodriguez-C
Max Gordon-CF
