Oregon and Oregon St. continue the Civil War this afternoon, with a showdown of 2 of the best freshman pitchers in the country, with sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 on the line.
Oregon will go with LHP Cole Irvin (10-2, 2.64). Irvin was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after his complete game shutout in last week's 4-0 win at Ohio St.
Oregon St. will counter with RHP Andrew Moore (10-1, 1.48). Moore is a Eugene native, hailing from North Eugene High.
The Ducks took the Friday night series opener 3-0 behind a 2-hit performance by Tommy Thorpe, setting the tone for the weekend as one where tremendous pitching is likely to be the norm. Oregon's win made it 10 straight for the home team in conference-counting games in the Civil War, as well as snapping a 12 game Oregon St. win streak, while extending their own to 9 games.
In addition to avoiding losing the series, Oregon St. today is also still looking for the win in order to equal the 2005 team's mark of 42-9 for most wins in the regular season.
Today's game, as well as tomorrows, will be carried by the Pac-12 Network, so there's no free live stream.
Oregon St. head coach Pat Casey has tweaked the lineup again today, moving Danny Hayes up ahead of Ryan Barnes, and also elevating Kavin Keyes above Jake Rodriguez. Here's the order for today:
Tyler Smith-SS
Andy Peterson-2B
Michael Conforto-LF
Dylan Davis-RF
Danny Hayes-1B
Ryan Barnes-DH
Kavin Keyes-3B
Jake Rodriguez-C
Max Gordon-CF
