Oregon St. dropped 2 of 3 games in San Diego this past weekend, and as a result, slipped 4 slots to #6 in this week's Baseball America Top 25 poll. The Toreros, after 1 week outside the top 25, jumped back in, at #23, on the strength of the wins over the Beavers.
Oregon St. remained the highest ranked Pac-12 team, as UCLA dropped from #7 to #10 after dropping the first 2 of their 3 games in Tempe, and needed 10 innings to pull out the 3rd game. As a result, the Sun Devils also climbed back into the top 25, at #24.
The Beavers, who are second in the Pac-12, 1 1/2 games behind Oregon, and the Bruins, who are third, 2 games back, meet this weekend in Los Angeles in a 3 game conference series Friday through Sunday. Oregon St. has 3 games in hand on both Oregon and UCLA.
The Ducks, despite taking over the lead in the Pac-12 standings, and winning all 4 of their games, defeating Portland, Oregon St.'s opponent this Tuesday, and then sweeping their 3 game series against visiting Washington, edged up only 1 spot, from 12 to 11.
North Carolina remains #1 as they have all season, and Vanderbilt, whom Oregon St. had moved past last week, reclaimed the #2 spot. LSU moved up from #4 to #3.
Fullerton St. is now the highest ranked western team. The Titans moved up from #5 to #4 after sweeping a 3 game Big West Conference series from Pacific, this after losing a game to Loyola-Marymount.
Virginia is the other team ahead of Oregon St., at #5.
Cal-Poly is the only other ranked team from the west. The Mustangs moved up from #23 to #21 after sweeping 3 games from UC-Davis, and despite an earlier loss to Pepperdine.
Oregon St. is also #6 in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll, and also the USA-Today Coaches' Assistant Sports Information Directors' poll. The Beavers slipped to #8 in the Perfect Game and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn. polls.
